Glass is an exciting medium for artistic expression. Fused or kiln-fired glass adds extreme heat to the design process and an element of surprise as well. Since color in glass is achieved through chemistry, combining colors may result in unexpected new hues. Texture and shape may also change in the heat of the kiln. Glass is strong but fragile. It can be translucent or opaque, iridescent, shiny or dull, rough or smooth. I can try to control these effects and plan for specific outcomes, but ultimately I enjoy the wonder of it all! This is why I love working with glass — exploring ideas, learning new techniques, finding new ways to push the medium. Each piece I make is one-of-a-kind.
